This was the living room of our apartment on that trip. We rented it from the website Sejour à Paris and it was a good price for one week, in the first arrondissement. That's the neighborhood where the old market of Paris, Les Halles, was located. And also the setting for the movie Irma La Douce. It had a lot of small restaurants -- good for one daughter, a vegetarian at the time, and the other daughter, who preferred beef.

Our last day in Paris Josephine went shopping at Samaritain and bought high-heeled loafers which were all the rage in Paris at that time. Josephine is deaf and speaks English with an accent, but the French saleswoman had no problem with communication. Geneviève returned to Versailles. Rick and I went to the Orangerie to see the full-room exhibit of Monet's waterlily paintings. The next day we said au revoir à Paris and flew home.

In 1998 Rick and I went to France by ourselves for two weeks. The first night we took the dinner cruise on the bateau mouche. It was wonderful. As we sailed around Notre Dame, the violinist on board played Ave Maria. On this trip we would go to the Loire Valley to see the chateaux and then spend a week in the south of France, visiting the small museums.
