No and yes. Richard Kurz is not French, he's American. But, he grew up in New Orleans, so yes, he is French. Both of his parents were great cooks. When we got engaged, his mother taught me to make roux. Roux is two tablespoons of butter melted and two tablespoons of flour browned in the butter. When the roux is brown, you add boullion, and stir. Roux is the base of most French sauces. Most important in New Orleans, it is the base for gumbo, creole gumbo and seafood gumbo.

Genevieve and Josephine are my daughters. Here they are on the top level of the Eiffel Tower. In the right upper corner you can see the Arc de Tripomphe. This was our family trip to Paris. Genevieve had just graduated from college, and Josephine had just graduated from high school.

While we were in Paris we took a ride down the Seine on a bateau mouche boat. When we passed a statue, the guide told us that it was Ste Genevieve, patron saint of Paris, who brought provisions to the French troops when they were fighting off invaders. I had no idea about this.

Genevieve is named for her great grandmother from New Orleans, who passed away just before she was born.

Josephine is named for her grandfather Joseph on my side, who had German and Irish roots.

They were both much loved by all their grandparents and great grandparents.

We had been told before going to Paris to never give your camera to another person to take a photo because there had been so much theft. Then, when we were standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, someone asked to take our picture and one of us handed over the camera. Not only did this stranger hand the camera back, we have this wonderful family photo to remember our trip.
